We watched the Swifts go to bed tonight, and got to see the Hawk take
one from inside the chimney!

None of that was a coded message.

Today In Inappropriate Subtext

Observe this photo of Defense Secretary Gates, in today's WSJ.
Although the story is about the defense announcement from yesterday,
Gates appears to be depressed, maybe even crying, or ashamed? It's a
photo that belongs next to a story about a scandal, not a perfectly
legal and not really all that controvertial decision (see today's news
about the polling in Poland).

WTF, WSJ?

Bedsheets for Dinner

I sat down this weekend and finally made the napkins I have wanted for a long while.

These are made out of a queen sized flannel fitted sheet I found at the Seattle bins before we moved. I cut it up into 20 15″ squares, then zig-zag stitched the edges. For the first few, I actually measured and pinned, but then I gave up and just free-stitched it, and I’ll be honest – I can’t tell the difference between the neat ones and the lazy ones. Flannel is kind of a pain to sew, it stretches and sticks to itself all over the place!
